Oh to be a student....
Thursday, August 31, 2006 2:22 AM

Yehey! I have four days of training at Oracle this week. I'm already finished with the second day of the training...

The class is on Data Modelling... The topic itself is interesting, but I don't like the way that Oracle is offereing it. I like it better on how it was taught back in high school... I think the instructor has something to do with it also. The instructor at Oracle is too chatty, too much talk on her (yes, the instructor's a her)  experiences, but not much on hte concepts. To make matters worse she mixes things up when teaching to the point that she is jumping back and forth the lesson that I'm lost on what we already discussing on.

I'm starting to miss being a student again. The thrill of learning something totally new. Doing stuff just for sense of exploration. :)

New Post?
Wednesday, August 02, 2006 8:31 PM

I finally found the time to write here again. Its been quite a while since I last posted here, in fact its almost a year to my last post. I guess work really takes a lot from you, physically and mentally. At the end of the day, I was too tired to actually even think of looking around the community reading blogs. I think the last time I ready any blog from theSpoke was quite some time ago already also. Good thing that there's a bit of a lull here on the office, waiting for some things to finish. :) I'll try to be a better poster and share some of the stuff that I have learned here at the office, but knowing me, that would be a really challenge to pull off. Well, bye for now, I think the stuff that I'm waiting for is already finished.

PS. This reads too much like a "I'm still alive" type of post. Oh well.

Hello
Thursday, September 15, 2005 10:48 PM

Just want to drop a message to everybody that I'm still around. hehe. :)

Work's kinda starting to take its toll on me. I'm finding that I'm coming home a bit later these past few days... the good thing though is that I'm learning a whole lot at work. I'm realizing that there's a really big world out there and that there are a lot of things that I still don't know. But I'm slowly getting there. :)

First Entry
Monday, September 05, 2005 1:43 AM

At last, I found the time to actually place a message here in the new home of theSpoke. I'm still trying to look around and see whats new here. From what I have seen its not too bad. The UI's much better not that the old one's not good, it looks slicker and cleaner now. :) As for the new features, I haven't tried out everything, but it seems that there are still some parts that could be improved. For one thing, I have a problem with viewing my Who Bar here at home (I'm using a dial-up connection). The site seems to be slower than the old one, but maybe its just my being new to the site. :P

Rant: almost like everybody else, I'm disappointed about my blog list not being migrated. It would take a while for me to recompile the reading list that I had before. So, if anybody there is reading, please don't forget to subscribe to my blog so that I can find you more easily. :)

Back for good
Saturday, August 20, 2005 2:23 PM
I haven't been really blogging that much the past few months. In fact its been more than a month since my last post. If I remember correctly this must be the longest period, that there isn't anything happening on this page of mine, so I'll try to give a short update on whats happening to me.

Work:
Work's pretty good. I've punched in a couple of days of overtime, since I already started on really working. Training's finished and I have been assigned to my post. Work's kinda weird since I was assigned to the same group as with my co-MIS in the IT Cadetship program, but I won't tell who it is. Suffice to say that I have known this person for quite some time and I haven't really though about the concept of really working alongside somebody you know. :p We're not assigned into the same subdivision within the group, I don't know if thats a good or a bad thing. :)

Personal Life:
Nothing much is really happening except for the fact that my HS class had a couple of renunions for the past few months. It was really good to see these guys again. :)

Misc:
I started listening to Van Halen these couple of days. They're pretty good. :) I got to know them from listening to the Transformers and Power Rangers the Movie (the first one) soundtracks. These two soundtracks are ow of the best that I have heard so far. The songs in these albums are predominantly rock, but they're a good mix (for me that is, I have learned that I have weird tastes in music. :p)

Anyway that's it for me now. I'll try to post more often, I have a couple of ideas for post, but I need sometime to flesh them out on how I would be writing them.

Shot down in flight

Ateneo lost its first game of the UAAP season to la Salle, is this a sign of things to come in the season? Do I still believe, after watching the game I honestly don't know...

Still Training & Outing
Saturday, July 02, 2005 3:53 AM
Yesterday was the last day of our java training at the local Sun headquaters. Again, the training was kinda boring since it was repeat of lessons learned in college. I'm starting to really appreciate the course that I have taken up the past four years.

As we were having the training, there was a political rally happening at the intersection near the building. Our room's window overlooked this intersection, so we were able to watch the people gather together and separate. Good thing nothing bad happened during the rally.

After training, 3 of my fellow cadets and I went for an hour of playing badminton. There were supposed to be more of us, but unforntunately, the others had other things to do. As we were going to the badminton place, not sure what to call it, I met up with Caro. She was coming out of her building to look at the protesters. We were only able to chat for a minute or so, since we were already running late for our reservation. I wanted to stay and chat with her some more. :( I sure do hope we can meet sometime soon. hehe. :) I realized then that I missed my fellow MIS people. I wonder if we can have a renunion or something. hehe. :)

The badminton session was fun. Just on the way there, after meeting Caro, we were laughing the whole way. We were almost run over a couple of times, but we shrugged them off, with laughs. :) Playing went by so fast. We plan to have another game sometime soon. :)

Zoning Out at Training
Friday, June 24, 2005 3:03 PM
As I said in my last post, we had an exam for our training for the week. The exam was a hands-on exam. It happens that there are times, well it happens more often than not, I become quite hyper when I'm taking tests. I don't really know why, but it just happens. When that happens, I kinda get this feeling that I'm in the zone, something like what drivers are shown to experience in the movie Driven. Anyway, there are times that in going into this state, I'm so hyper and preoccupied in taking the exam that I miss some stuff in the exam itself. This happened to me this afternoon. I'm quite disappointed with myself, since I missed some parts that I knew, it got so bad that in the end, I wasn't really even thinking straight anymore. It just felt that I was moving on automatic. Alas, I wasn't able to finish the exam. Oh, well I guess I just have to catch up on next ones...

Note: thanks to ma'am didith and she for posting comments on my previous post. I really appreciated it. :)

Depressing
Thursday, June 23, 2005 2:12 PM
I'm feeling depressed today. I know the immediate reason, but I don't know how I could prevent it. I wouldn't really want to go into details, since its something personal, but suffice to say its something related to my personality....

I still have a test for my training tomorrow, I wonder if I would still be able to do well on it, despite my depression...

Another training day
Monday, June 20, 2005 2:20 PM
Today was another training day. It was kinda boring since the speaker's voice was monotonous, and it was on sql. Nonetheless, it was quite good to have a refresher course on sql, before plunging into studying the DBMS. Another good thing about the training was that it was held outside the office. Turns out we were trained at the office of one of my batchmates. hehe. It was nice talking and reminicing. She even said that she would be sitting in on our training tomorrow. :)

side note: I just opened up my batches cd-yearbook. All that I can say is that IT ROCKS! :D

Blog Controversy
Monday, June 13, 2005 4:33 PM
I just received an email sent through our org's egroups. It contains a supposed blog entry of a disgruntled incoming freshman. Along with the entry of course was a slew of different comments, most of which are against the blog writer. Initially the email only contained the link to the entry, and once the entry became private, somebody actually posted the whole entry into the email message. Currently the link is broken stating that the entry was deleted...

Being part of a blogging community, it kinda makes you wonder how safe you are. True, a blog may be a place wherein you can express you own ideas and opition and make these available to the problic, or to a more selected few. You may be prepared to get feedback from your readers, but when something like this happens, it makes you hesitate to write...

Another Training Day
Monday, June 06, 2005 12:06 PM
We had our training today at HP. It was on HP-Unix. :)

It was refreshing to realize how much useful the lessons in school were. The lessons turned out to be a repeat of the lessons I learned from our CS 161, Operating Systems, in college. Since it was one of the classes that I really aced back in college, I was way ahead of by classmates in the training. hehe...

The training itself turned out to be a boring experience. Most probably due to the fact that I know around 90% of the lessons being taught in class. hehe. Another factor was the seating arrangement. There was 13 of us, IT Cadets, and the seats were grouped in threes. Guess who was left sitting all by his lonesome? You got it, I was left all alone, at the back of the room at that! :p Being all by yourself is really lonesome...

Yesterday's Post
Monday, May 30, 2005 12:04 PM

I was supposed to post the following yesterday, but a problem with my connection prevented me, so here it is now:

I got home a bit later than expected last Friday from the team-building activity at Island Cove. I was dead tired upon reaching the house so I kinda postponed blogging about it until now.

Overall the activity was quite fun. We had a batch of WNTG engineers along with us. We had a bit of lectures on things like personal Vision and Mission making, but they only took up around a third of our time. Most of the time was used in having group dynamics. I learned a lot from these activities. Not only did they bond us together, but they also imparted lessons that can be applied once we actually start working. The group dynamics actually reminded me a bit of the MIS games course that I once took up. :)

For me, the high part of the trip was the ride home. It was a riot, even though we were all tired from the two days, we still have fun, enjoying each other's company. :)

On a good note: I felt that that I was able to get a bit closer to my co-cadets. I'm still a bit apprehesive about some of them though.

The family - my siblings, parents and even my grandma - went this afternoon to watch Star Wars. It was a good movie, though there were some parts that was quite sketchy. These parts were questionable and could have been done better. Despite this, it was a fitting end to the Star Wars franchise. :D

That's all for now. Back to regular training tomorrow.

Wednesday, May 25, 2005 12:30 PM
I'll off to Island Cove tomorrow for a 2-day team building activity. I do hope this event would make me closer to by "batchmates". :)

Sidenote: My parents seems to be more excited that I am?!?
